Privacy Policy

Effective October 2, 2026

The short version

  • Your chats, matches, screenshots and what Encore remembers about each person are stored only on your iPhone. Screenshots are read on the phone and never uploaded.
  • "Talk it through" uses the microphone only while that screen is open. Your iPhone turns your words into text (on the device when your iPhone supports it; otherwise Apple's speech recognition processes the audio). The audio isn't saved, and only the text is sent to coach you, when you tap Write my text.
  • The Encore keyboard never logs or sends your keystrokes. It sends only the message you choose to coach, when you tap Suggest.
  • When you ask for coaching, and only after you allow it, the text of that chat and the profile details you added are sent through our server to Anthropic's Claude AI. Our server doesn't store that text. Anthropic doesn't use it to train its models.
  • Our server keeps a small account record: an Apple user ID (or, if you sign in with email, a scrambled version of your address), your plan, your free reads, XP and streaks, and anything you choose to share with a crew or the leaderboard.
  • No ads. No tracking. No analytics SDKs. We don't sell or share your personal information.
  • You can delete your account and everything tied to it from the app: You › Delete account.

1. Who we are

Encore is an iPhone app made by Dakota Fulks, an individual developer based in the United States ("Encore", "we", "us"). For the purposes of data protection law, we are the controller of the personal information described here. You can reach us at .

This policy covers the Encore iOS app, its share extension and keyboard extension, the Encore server at api.encorecoach.app, and this website.

2. What stays on your iPhone

Most of what you put into Encore never leaves your device. It is saved in the app's private storage on your iPhone (an App Group shared only by the Encore app, its share extension and its keyboard):

Screenshots. When you share screenshots to Encore or turn on auto-import, the app reads the text on your iPhone using Apple's Vision framework. Only the text is kept. Images are never uploaded to us or anyone else. Screenshots that aren't chats are ignored.

We can't see this on-device data. If you delete the app, it's removed from your phone. You can delete a single thread (with everything remembered about that person) in one tap, or erase everything from You › Delete chats on this iPhone.

3. AI coaching and third-party AI

Encore's coaching is written by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, PBC. Here is exactly what happens.

We ask first

Before anything is sent, the app shows an "Allow AI coaching" screen that explains what is shared and with whom. Nothing is sent until you tap "Allow and continue". You can turn AI coaching off later on the You tab, and the app stops sending text to the AI.

What is sent, and when

Text is sent only when you ask for one of these: a coaching read, a call or date prep, a debrief, a vibe read of someone's profile, feedback on a reply you wrote yourself (Learn mode), date ideas, or quick suggestions from the keyboard. Each request can include:

Other chats, screenshots and photos are never sent. Feedback, date ideas and keyboard suggestions are handled exactly like coaching reads: passed to the AI, returned to your phone, and not stored.

The Encore keyboard

The keyboard is optional. iOS asks you to turn on "Allow Full Access" for it, and shows a general warning for every keyboard that has it. Encore uses Full Access for two things only: to reach our server when you tap Suggest, and to read a message you copied when you paste it in. It also reads your sign-in session and your saved people from the app's shared storage on your phone.

Where it goes

The request travels over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API and returns the answer to your phone. Our server does not store or log the content of these requests or the AI's answers. It only adds one to a daily usage counter on your account (used for free-read and fair-use limits).

Anthropic acts as our service provider. It processes the text to generate the coaching, under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to use API data to train its models. Anthropic may keep API inputs and outputs for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring, as described in its own policies, and then deletes them. We don't send Anthropic your Apple ID or Encore account ID.

Sensitive information

Your gender and who you're dating can reveal your sexual orientation, and dating chats can contain other personal details. We use this only to coach you, only with your consent, and we don't keep it on our server. Chats also include messages written by other people. Please share only what you need for coaching, and don't paste things like passwords, financial account numbers or someone else's private information.

4. What our server stores and why

To run your account, subscriptions, crews and the leaderboard, our server (hosted on Cloudflare) keeps the following:

DataWhy
Apple user ID from Sign in with Apple, and an Encore account IDTo sign you in and keep your account. We don't request your name or email from Apple.
Email address, only if you choose "Continue with email"To send you a one-time sign-in code through our email provider. We don't store the address. We keep a keyed hash of it (a scrambled value that can't be turned back into the address) so the same email signs back into the same account. We never send marketing email.
Plan and subscription status: free or Plus, expiry date, and Apple's original transaction IDTo unlock Encore Plus. We check status with Apple's App Store Server API. We never see your card or payment details.
Free read balance and referral counts (friends joined, welcome bonus used)To track free reads and referral rewards.
AI consent timeTo record that you allowed AI coaching, and when.
Progress: XP, weekly XP, streak and level, plus daily counters of in-app actions (for example, how many screenshots were imported or reads requested today)For levels, streaks, the leaderboard and daily limits. These are counts only, never content.
Daily AI usage counterFor free-read and fair-use limits.
Leaderboard handle (optional)Shown with your level, XP and streak if you join the leaderboard.
Crews: crew name, invite code and invite link, member nicknames, crew points, join datesTo run the crews you create or join.
Crew rounds you choose to post: the messages you choose to include (from a few up to the whole chat, at most 300 messages; you can leave any out, and messages with contact details are left out by default), a label for the match (their name is hidden as "A match" unless you choose to show it), your goal, reply options, write-ins, votes, and the outcome you recordSo your crew can see the round and vote. Only members of that crew can see it.
Reports and blocks: who reported what, the reason, and who you've blockedTo keep crews and the leaderboard safe and enforce our terms.

Technical data. Like any internet service, our hosting provider Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic request information (time, endpoint, response status) to deliver requests and protect the service from abuse. Our code never writes chat content to logs. We don't use IP addresses to track you or work out your location.

Support emails. If you email us, we'll have your email address and whatever you write, and use it only to help you.

5. Photos and notifications

Photos (optional). If you turn on auto-import, Encore asks for Photos access to read new chat screenshots. Other photos are ignored, and no photo ever leaves your phone. By default, Encore asks after each import whether to delete the imported chat screenshots, and you can change this to always keep or always delete; iOS always asks you to confirm, and deleted items stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days. You can use Encore without Photos access by pasting text or using the share sheet.

Notifications (optional). Encore can show a local notification when new screenshots have been sorted, and, if you start a free trial with "Remind me the day before" on, a reminder the day before the trial ends. These notifications are created on your phone. We don't use push notifications or collect a device token.

6. How we use data, and what we never do

We use the data above only to provide Encore: to sign you in, coach you, run subscriptions and free reads, run crews and the leaderboard, keep the service secure, respond to reports, and answer support requests.

We never:

7. Service providers

We use a small number of providers who process data on our behalf, under contracts that limit how they can use it:

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of any person, to address fraud or security issues, or as part of a transfer of the app to a new owner, who would have to honor this policy.

8. Legal bases (EEA and UK)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, we rely on these legal bases under the GDPR and UK GDPR:

9. How long we keep data

10. Deleting your data

In the app, go to You › Delete account. This permanently deletes, in one step, your account record, subscription status, free reads, XP and streak, leaderboard handle, any crews you own (with their rounds), your rounds and write-ins in other crews, your votes, the reports you've filed, blocks you made or received, and your daily counters. The app then erases chats on your iPhone.

Deleting your account does not cancel an Encore Plus subscription. Apple manages billing, so cancel in iPhone Settings › your name › Subscriptions.

You can also ask us to delete your account by email. See Delete your account for both options.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

We honor these rights for everyone, wherever you live. Email . Because we don't store your name or email address, we'll need a way to find your account, such as the email you sign in with (we can match its scrambled version), your leaderboard handle, a crew name and invite code, or your App Store purchase receipt details. We'll reply within 30 days (45 days where US state law allows), and tell you if we need more time.

12. California and other US states

This section applies to residents of California (CCPA as amended by the CPRA) and other states with similar privacy laws, such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah and Texas.

Categories collected in the last 12 months (all from you or your device, plus subscription status from Apple):

Purposes and recipients are described in sections 3, 4, 6 and 7. We disclose personal information only to the service providers listed in section 7, for business purposes.

No sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and haven't in the past 12 months. We have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing data of anyone under 16. Because we don't sell or share, there is nothing to opt out of; we also treat Global Privacy Control signals as a valid opt-out request.

Your rights: to know, access, correct and delete personal information, to limit use of sensitive personal information, and to non-discrimination. You can use an authorized agent; we may ask the agent for proof of your permission and confirm the request with you. If we deny a request, you can appeal by replying to our decision, and we'll respond within the time the law requires.

13. Adults only

Encore is only for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using Encore, email us and we'll delete the account.

14. Security

All traffic between the app and our server is encrypted with HTTPS. Your sign-in session is kept in the iPhone Keychain, shared only between the Encore app and its keyboard. On-device data is protected by iOS data protection. Sign-in tokens from Apple are verified against Apple's public keys, and subscription status is checked directly with Apple. We keep the data we store to a minimum. No system is perfectly secure, so if we learn of a breach that affects you, we'll notify you and regulators as the law requires.

15. International transfers

Encore is run from the United States. Our server runs on Cloudflare's global network, and our data is processed in the US and other countries where our providers operate. If you are outside the US, your information will be transferred there. Where the law requires, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK addendum) included in our providers' data processing terms, or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

16. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the effective date. If a change is significant, such as a new use of your data, we'll give notice on this site before it takes effect and, where the law requires, ask for your consent.
